Re: Initial Plans (aka Nick's back)

Looks like I'll be able to make a start this weekend. Track arrived on Monday and when I got home from work this evening I found a baseboard kit in the shed. :D Probably can't do too much until I get a point but I've got woodwork to muddle through first. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd267/n_el...

Re: Initial Plans (aka Nick's back)

Thanks for the link, definitely something I'll be considering. Anyway, this evening I've been playing around with some paper and card to produce a mock-up of the track and scenery. A bit rough but I think it shows what I'm aiming for quite well. The wagon is simply there for scale purposes. You'll h...

Re: Initial Plans (aka Nick's back)

Ah yes of course, thanks to the magic of 3d printing eh? I will certainly be considering some of your designs Simon. Inset track will certainly be a must have for the visible sections inside the factory building(s), not so sure I want to do an inset point though. This morning when I got up (at 5:30!...

Re: Initial Plans (aka Nick's back)

Hi Nick, I always think that factories and sheds are a great excuse to have pretty much anything trundling to and fro. The only thing I'd question/perhaps change is the shed. Is it for servicing locos/stock? If it is for 'stuff' for the factory then said 'stuff' needs to be seen to come and go. If ...

Initial Plans (aka Nick's back)

Hi all, As I said in a previous thread I'm starting to make something of a return to model railways and Gn15. Unlike the last attempt nearly a year and a half ago I'm actually starting to get things done. I'll be ordering the stuff I need for a baseboard tomorrow (aka payday  ) along with a fe...

Re: Making a return

Urgh, has is really been nearly a year and a half since I posted this thread? How time flies when you're having fun, or in my case furnishing a house and for the past couple of months completely redoing your garden. Well better late than never I guess. Truth be told I did actually do some mod...

Like Adrian I use the 1/2" = 1' and 1mm = 1" approach. Ultimately I find the best way of doing things is "if it looks right it is right." Sure it means that I end up with 1:24 buildings and locos, 1:25.4 minor details and people of all sorts of sizes but as long as it looks good ...

I agree completely that height won't be an issue but heroic vs realistic is. I seriously doubt you want people with hands that are bigger than their heads populating your layout. Those foundry models are very good, but then they would be since they were sculpted by the Perry brothers. I have b...

Just a quick note about wargaming figures. Be very very careful about which figures you use. 28mm is certainly a standard size for a lot of miniatures however the are two approaches to proportions and two different height standard to cope with. Firstly you've got "heroic" and realistic pro...

Making a return

Hi all, no idea if any of you remember me but reading the forum this evening I see plenty of familiar names are still around. Bar the occasional random post I've been away for a few years now thanks to a combination of (in order) university, unemployment, getting into wargaming, eventually finding e...

I might come back at some point. I'm no longer sidetracked by university but now find myself focusing on wargaming so who knows when I'll have the time (or space!) to get back in to model railways. Maybe once I've got my own place (looking for a flat at the moment). I might be able to start up again.

I won't be turning up today, but not because of my illness. My dad managed to become very ill overnight (doctor was called out etc), so my car access has been revoked in case we need to call an ambulance and my mum has to follow it to hospital.

Well it seems that any potential colds that Barry has dodged have all homed in on me. I've been under the weather for the best part of a week now. I might be there, depends on how I feel tomorrow morning.

I've got some photos but like previous years I managed to 'forget' to take photos of anything not related to the Gnofolkers.

I'll sort them out during the week.

I should be along tonight, still no modelling done, I've got the time now but not the inclination to do anything. I might manage something in hte next month or so but it's unlikely.
