Re: Sow's Ear Seeks Silk Purse

The latest bit of bodgement and ad-hoc-ery ... https://i.imgur.com/0mr4NKG.jpg https://i.imgur.com/jCE6m1K.jpg The motor was prised out of the tender frame, and about 3mm cut off the back end, to make the frame the same length as the tender body. Also, the steps were hacked off the sides. The locomo...

Re: Sow's Ear Seeks Silk Purse

My first bit of butchery was to the footplate. My building material of choice is plasticard, so hacking metal about is a bit of a new experience. I fitted a new blade to the trusty hacksaw and set about removing the unwanted bits. First to come off was the cow-catcher, followed by the strange slopin...

Re: Sow's Ear Seeks Silk Purse

Right, first thing to do is to dismantle the beast. Lots of little screws hold it all together, and will no doubt come in useful for something in future. This is the result of a frantic 10 minutes unscrewing … https://i.imgur.com/4MgPCRF.jpg I had imagined that the loco was constructed entirely of p...

Sow's Ear Seeks Silk Purse

Last May we were on a walking holiday around Whitby, and on one of our trips we took the North York Moors Railway train from Whitby to Goathland and walked back to Grosmont. While waiting there for the train back to Whitby, I wandered into a nearby local shop to buy a paper, and found this on their ...

Re: In A Bit Of Estate

I've had a set of Preiser figures - set 45053 - on order for ages. I had almost forgotten them, when they turned up in the post. Re: In A Bit Of Estate

Hope all goes well Graham. If it's an endoscopy I strongly recommend that you have the sedative they should offer - it definitely isn't as traumatic that way (and I've had it without and with)!

Re: In A Bit Of Estate

I have been reminded that Narrow Gauge South is just a week away, so Berger Hall has been roused from its slumbers in a very large vacuum bag on top of a wardrobe in a very dark corner. Here it is, blinking in the uncertain Oxfordshire sunshine ... https://i.imgur.com/Np7WQmY.jpg J D Wetherspoon is ...

Re: Where is Everyone?

Brian Clarke produced kits for 009, and 16mm NG locos and trackwork, as well as writing about narrow gauge subjects. This thread on NGRM Online shows some of his stuff http://ngrm-online.com/forums/index.php?/topic/17997-drawings-by-brian-clarke/&tab=comments#comment-409742 I corresponded with h...

Re: Matthews Corner, a Chris Krupa classic.

Gosh, I think MOMING '07 was the first one I went to - I remember seeing Chris there and chatting about his layout, which I'd seen on the Gnatterbox. I also had a long chat with Gerry Bullock over his Salinas layout, trying to find out what this Gn15 business was all about ...
