Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Thanks, Bill. Its quite straightforward, just a little squeezed in. Having each track section switched does mean I can have three locomotives "on scene" at once... :D :D

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

After a busy week in which nothing was done at anything much, I settled down yesterday afternoon and yesterday to connect up the wiring. It isn't quite finished yet, 'cos I need a yard of grey wire (none in the local Maplins, none in stock thin enough) to connect up the last track section. So, not f...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

I'm away this weekend (unsupervised, too) so there probably won't be a lot done. In light of this, 'cos I was home early from work (1pm finish on a Friday), I fitted the back and side mdf sections. They'll likely be off again, but with them in place I can get the wiring done. I reprinted the control...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Its the nature of the piece of track. Its a bit like a dead frog point - there are plastic sections between the powered rails.

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Last for today. There is wine with my name on it. The curved section which has given me plenty of anxiety turned out to be not too bad, but another interesting problem has arisen. More of that later... I had a look at the amount of track needed for the curve which turned out to be roughly 2/3 of a l...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Now that the track is down and set firmly in place, some revisions and modifications have been suggested. From the start I've always wondered if there was room for another track coming off the turntable, without taking away from the design and also without the whole thing looking cluttered. There wa...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

A bit of a bonkers week in work, so no progress until today. I've made and fitted all of the track sections except for the curved one. These were cut to length with Xuron cutters, and stuck to the foam base with caulk. All expense was as ever spared. It now looks like this: https://farm5.staticflick...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Today I made a start on the track sections. Alignment with the turntable is crucial, so I made the section which runs into the shed first. This is a piece of Hornby OO straight track with 1/2" or so trimmed off. It joins to the Atlas square crossing inside the shed. It will be buried in the gro...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Minor progress over the last couple of days. The control panel has now been drilled out, section and other switches added, and the whole thing trial fitted to the back mdf panel: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4443/23986027608_2755958408_c.jpg 2017-10-21 20.59.56 by lesmond2009 , on Flickr https://f...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Planking finished, just to add "nails" and finish the inspection hatch (currently a square piece of styrene): https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4465/37645117936_b382e2db32_c.jpg 2017-10-14 17.44.24 by lesmond2009 , on Flickr It looks fairly ok (I think, anyway) in place: https://farm5.staticf...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

Be sure and say "hello" :) I've added the power feeds to the rails, and started planking the turntable: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4463/37621319751_68c8f10642_c.jpg 2017-10-10 17.48.14 by lesmond2009 , on Flickr The other side will have an inspection hatch set into the planks, and the ...

Re: Variant of the Carl Arendt SAP Line

This one is due out at the NDMRS show in April of next year, so its all hands to the pump to get it done. The turntable is crucial to the alignment of the rest of the track, so today I glued the track to the mdf top, and once that was set added one of the plastic sides to level the top with the top ...
