Maybe you can figure out the size of the loco from his photos, knowing the gauge of the track.

A great layout. I like how you’ve used bright contrasty colours to bathe the layout in hot sunshine.

Click/taphold a side of the display. Don’t go too fast or you won’t be able to stop at the stations.

Yes, I’ll help with this. I’d like to help recover some threads I come back to, like simplicity sidings and the traversers. I’ve got the knowledge.Though I’ve got an iPad and an earlier version of Firefox on Linux.

Re: Austrian Steel Works

You posted a great video. It was all very physical: coal, water, grease, molten iron. The fumes, heat and noise in those confined places must have been terrible. I love the long hair on some of the workers - it could only be the 70s.

Here's what I meant: B07AA5A7-AB66-43E7-B210-25D84BA36754L0001.png I make the whole thing wider than I want, then put a spacer against each side of the tube in turn and use a knife to cut it to the right width. Use a fine piercing saw blade, this cuts the bearings to length without tearing the cardb...

It's surprising how difficult model railwaying can be. No wonder people give up and take to twitter. Congratulations on your finished and operating layout.

Re: Experiments with tippers

Ha. Nice solution to the tipper problem. And to the axlebox problem. I've found a good way to make well-shaped axleboxes is to take a length of tube and glue to it a length of strip (for the top surface). Then glue paper over the two to hide the gap between the tube and the strip. Finally, cut to sh...

Re: Experiments with tippers

That tipper looks great Les. I'll be interested to see how you resolve the bits at each end to hold and rotate the body. Some time ago I saw on the internet a way of forming the bodies in one hit: - underneath is some plywood with a rectangular hole the size of the body at the top - on top a piece o...

Wasn't the whole Ned Kelly thing just Sidney Nolan's backstory? Very convincing weathering though, those 'bullet dings' are just genius.

Re: Great E Motor from the TRASH.........

CD drives, either for music or computer have small low power can motors, good for us. Unfortunately CD drives are going the way of steam locomotives, plus the more recent computer CD drive motors are not DC (2 wires) but more like stepper motors (4 wires) and would require drive electronics.

Bill, Whatever 'host' and 'CDN' mean, Imgur's terms of service say not to 'host content for your website' and that is what you are doing here. The fact that Imgur give you suitable links doesn't mean they condone what you are doing, because we can use such links for other purposes, which don't contr...

Hi Grum, my gn15.info still works for me. I haven't logged in for years. I could still login even when my iPad autocorrected my user name: first letter a capital, space after.

Can you still log in to the forum?
