Re: Macton II

Hi Michael, I’m impressed that you are making a factory type layout with the buildings and track askew to the edges. When I’ve tried to do that, including my current cakebox layout, it’s never looked right. Personally, I prefer the arrangement in your second to last post, with the two alleys going r...

I’ve taken the liberty of posting this photo of the Ambassador Works layout unfinished but in its final configuration of 3 modules, each about 300 mm long.

That’s gorgeous. Just what a small railway should be. Bert had better keep that flame away from the woodwork.

I’ve been looking for a few years; busy with other thinks. Work on my house is slowing and I’m modelling again.

Michael, that’s developing well. What is that device in the first photo. It looks like it might void your ‘no hardware was harmed while creating this layout’ claim.

I like these buildings. Here’s some photos from this and other of Andi’s threads. Unfortunately I only saved these: From Miss Lemon’s cottage: B1D63BA4-86A6-45E0-A4F9-E2DA49B177E8.jpeg 8C723C69-6525-4FAF-BBE4-0A87BE73931C.jpeg AD6EB750-084F-410E-9A93-C17495AC92AD.jpeg 4565CE88-0E7A-4BF4-B82E-8D6B496...

Re: Eaton Hall & Co cakebox layout

Another mock-up. This is like eating potato chips (that’s ‘crisps’ in imperial units). I followed Stockers’ suggestion to make the ‘usable’ part of the loading platform longer, to fit 2 wagons. I didn’t want to put a door in the building face to the right of the platform, so I ran the steps along th...

Eaton Hall & Co cakebox layout

Aaah, the difficult third layout. A number of more ambitious false starts convinced me that I should keep it small. And RMWeb’s cakebox challenge makes me to do that: the maximum size is 200 x 200 x 150 mm. This of course is yet another Simplicity Sidings clone, I didn’t make one earlier, and is muc...

Robin’s simplicity sidings - reconstructed thread with photos

I liked Robin’s little layout and was sad when the photos fell victim to botophucket. I’d downloaded the photos and have posted them below, together with parts of the discussion. The original thread is here: http://gn15.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5621. The photos and words below are Robin’s: DFB80F9...

Re: Macton II

Hi Michael, I like the level of detail in the middle and right, so the left now looks a bit plain to me. In your version 1 I liked the alley to the back just to the left of the middle building. You could have an alley and have another building in the back left corner to match that building in the fr...

Re: Macton II

Yes, I prefer version 2. The gate and crane? extending front to back make interest. Though I think the back left corner needs a bit of thought: the track looks a bit fussy, and the corner seems to need an object to give it balance/a frame.

Cakebox challenge

RMWeb is running a challenge to build a layout that will fit in a cakebox. A cakebox is 8 x 8 x 6 inches outside, so it needs to be slightly less to fit in the box, say 200 x 200 x 150 mm max. Deadline is late next year. I’m thinking something small like this will get me modelling again; I’ve been s...
