Re: Ravenglass I/C and ballast wagons

The Bedside Ratty has a picture of a tiny scooter made from left over bits of other things. The other scooter kept having bits added and taken off which makes it look like it was more than one thing - the small Heywood wagon chassis is the give away as it seems to have been used throughout. It shoul...

Re: Unidentified Lister

More to do in places, but it has been running. The JAP engine turns out to be a bit of an awkward thing - no wonder so many failed in service due to oil supply problems. Its got a rotary valve to scour the oil / air mixture through the engine. Amongst other interesting oddities

Re: Unidentified Lister

We finally made it to Narrow Gauge North this year - it took a lot of hoisting to get it on and off the trailer but we got there. It was worth the effort as taking the magneto apart generated the interest of a J.A.P. fan who pointed out that we've got a clockwise magneto and an anticlockwise engine....

Re: Unidentified Lister

After a long battle with magneto's and other things we are almost progressing. A test tow from 7954 shows that the magneto chain now stays on while a couple of back fires show that we have a spark and carburetion. As always with 12" to the foot modelling each step forward reveals a new problem ...

Re: Duffield Bank Quarry Tunnel

A quick check shows that this is probably the tennis ground tunnel. There should be 2 tunnels close together on the southern loop - one between Tennis Ground and the quarry and another from the quarry on to the southern curve. The maps are a bit confusing as the southern curve can look like a tunnel...

Re: Duffield Bank Quarry Tunnel

The Heywood book gets the location of the tunnels wrong as it puts the small tunnel on the wrong line - I will check tonight and confirm which tunnel this is.

Re: Ripon Light Railway

We had a real freight last Friday - the second since we started laying track 25 years ago. The first was a paint pot and a ladder going to the industrial units, this time it was a drain pipe someone had seen from the canal and wanted for their allotment. We could have carried it by hand but it was a...

Re: Unidentified Lister

Just had a few days on the Lister - 2 steps forward, 1 step back.... It now has brakes (sort of) And almost has the engine linked to the clutch And it nearly looks the part so it will be going to Narrow Gauge North in 2016 NGRS visit planned for 2016 - I will post details closer to the time - all we...

Re: Shatura Transport Directive

I had a look at some second hand disabled buggies recently - you can get motors, control gear etc for quite a fair price so that you can build a small loco or tram.

You also get the rest of the buggie too, but that isn't quite so much use!

OK Been busy again - the Lister is looking better. The Decauville bogie wagon in 50cm gauge is even better - 134 years in industrial use in Manchester doing the same job, Neill thinks he's the only person interested in it - is he right? And are there any Decauville wagons still in use in the UK?

I am pretty sure that it didn't have a light on it when it came out of C&I We think Terry Stanhope beat you to it and got the lamp before you got the loco. Either way we had it out on Sunday for a run up and down the line. I have very little time these days but it was good to get the stock out ...

Overloaded Nissan Cabstars were one of Neill's specialities – it was a sad day when the last one went. The loss of carrying capacity is the reason for the lightweight petrol Lister – moving the other Listers now means hiring a truck while the petrol one should be OK on the trailer (with luck) Does a...
