Re: Is there a Mathematical Formula for Widening Gauge on Tight Curves ?

Here is a website that tells you how to calculate what will go round what curves - designed for model engineers, but same principles apply

http://www.smex.net.au/reference/MinRadius02.php

Probably far too technical for most of us !

I may have some photos somewhere.

Re: How tight a plain circle??

Couplings are usually the limiting factor - it's the sideplay on these that limits the curve you can get round.

Sideplay is made worse the further the ends of the vehicle are from the wheels, so that is a factor too.

Re: Forum hosting costs

Just to say I paid the hosting for the full next year yesterday, so we don't have to worry about it again until Jan 2019. Got a bit of discount so we still have about $40 in the till. Will save for next year as it doesn't look as if our photo hosting is being heavily used It looks like most people w...

Re: Forum hosting costs

OK I think we are there now. Assuming we can get a 10% discount on annual hosting, we have enough to pay for a full year from Jan 20th when the renewal is next due. Will talk to them and arrange it. Still got slightly iffy internet access, but that should be better in a week or so. I'm mulling over ...

Re: THREADS REVIVED WITH PHOTOS

Chris - do you use Chrome?

I've found a less labour intensive way of fixing threads with the use of a pair of Chrome extensions.

Just tried it on this thread

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4918&p=62769#p62769

Which I fixed for Daniel so he could see it.

Re: Forum hosting costs

Thanks to everyone. We are about 3/4 of the way there now.

I'm thinking of using any surplus we get to buy a registered and supported version of software I installed for photo hosting last year. How many are using this or think the might in the future ?

Forum hosting costs

Hi folks Sorry I've been a bit busy with other things and not been on here as much as I would like. I'm about to go and spend six months in Thailand and been getting things here sorted out ready. I'm hoping I'll have a little more time there and can catch up on the maintenance of the forum software,...

Fixing Photobucket

Good News - I think I worked out a technique to recover the Photos we have lost through Photobucket. Bad news - it's fairly labour intensive as it has to be done manually. It takes me about 1 hour to fix a page full. We may only have limited time too as Photobucket may block this. So two questions H...

Re: Photo hosting?

I'm busy with other things today but It appears the problem is because you have used https for the photos address and not just http. Not sure if the photo package is giving out the address as https - it shouldn't as I haven't bought a certificate for Gn15.info( we don't do money transactions that wo...

Bandwidth problems on my test server - it's only got a small allowance.

I'm still surprised it exceeded it - will check what is happening with it .

Re: Photo hosting?

OK i've adjusted the server settings so it now works here ! It's now up and live at https://gn15.info/photo You will need to set up a separate login there as it does not link with the forum software. I'm trying the free version for now, but if we have problems may need to change to a paying version ...

Re: Photo hosting?

This is a test installation of some software I'm looking at http://tbmod.com/g8

Would welcome any comments

user id = test

Password = test99

This version is free, but for some reason I can't get it to work on Gn15.info - there is a paying version which I am assured will work.

Re: Thank you, Photobucket !!!

My.gn15 uses The old forum user/password database as it's not compatible with the new forum software. So it 's frozen in time - OK for existing users, but there is no way to add new ones or change old ones.

This is why I am looking at new photo hosting software.

Re: Photo hosting?

Following on from that, I have been thinking about adding a replacement for my.gn15.info as the forum software stores photos in a way incompatible with some other forums - in particular the software used by RMWeb and NGRM-Online. I've been unable to find any free software that i'm happy has all the ...

Re: Photo hosting?

i'm quite happy for people to use Gn15.info to host picture and use them elsewhere - but yes it does increase bandwidth usage and one day might mean we have to pay more to support and host the forum. Two things - firstly that day is a long way away yet and secondly, as long as the pictures are reaso...

Re: Photo hosting?

No problem using it - apart from one month we are only using about 2% of available bandwidth.

But there are no new id's or password changes allowed so it's deprecated.

Is probably better to add as attachment, but this may not allow you to share to other sites if you also do that.

Re: Bandwidth exceeded

It looks like one of my old test forums ( not this one - it's on different url, but still on the same server ) may have been taken over by hackers and used for nefarious things. I'm going to try deleting it entirely, but it's possible my hosting account may be suspended - I hope only temporarily. Th...
