Re: Still modelling Gn15 or just looking?

Still active in Gn15, but dabbling in other scale/gauge combos as the mood strikes. I am working slowly on a layout based around the Ned Kelly bushranging legend in Australia. Slowly I am building up a stock of Smallbrook Gn15 Emett locos and kits for this, and building them equally slowly. I have a...

Re: Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

Gavin, yes, with Spike and his extraordinary parents and upbringing, his entertainment and literary career and all, there is so much to tell. The Collection of memorabilia which was gifted to our Library is amazing. Photographs by the score from India, Burma and Woy Woy, performance images, scripts ...

Re: Emett Smallbrook chassis question

Sorry David,
I may not have been very clear. I refer to the distance from the ends of the wagon that you fix the assemblies that carry the wheels.

Emett Smallbrook chassis question

Hi folks, work is progressing on my first Smallbrook Emett wagon chassis. One question. In Mike Rayner's otherwise clear instructions he states that his wheelsets are 16mm from the ends. I initially took this to be the axle centres, but visually this places the wheelsets too close to the buffers. Wo...

Re: Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

Steve, yes there would be so many absurdist ideas that could be borrowed from the Goons, and the characters themselves would really lend themselves to Emett style caricature. Maybe this script will help, here, have a Gorilla... http://www.thegoonshow.net/scripts_show.asp?title=s04e24_the_collapse_of...

Re: Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

Southpier,
I hope I don't sound resentful. I pinch myself that I get paid to do what I love to do, and the Milligan project is a great way to "give back something" to Spike Milligan, who has had such an influence on my life outlook and sense of humour.

A virtual tour and analysis of the Kelly armour from the State Library of Victoria
https://youtu.be/BILf1VD_Qy8
I saw the armour personally when I visited Melbourne last May.
The armour weighed approximately 41 kilos. It was never going to end well.

Re: Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

I love the Strawberry Mountain video. The look of the layout and rolling stock is similar to what I envisage. I am in the procrastination stage at present, although I have purchased a catalogue from a Sidney Nolan Ned Kelly exhibition for inspiration. Part of my procrastination is to do with a busy ...

Re: Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

Hi John, I hope to have suitable bullet dings in the boiler cladding. Just trying to work out what to build the loco from. Will probably be a fairly solid styrene base similar to the resin "Stromboli" in the Emett range from Smallbrook. The Kelly-armoured boiler will be tricky if I am to g...

Kelly Country: Australian folklore and Gn15

Hi folks, a discussion with a my friend Guy the other day over Beer and Fish and Chips progressed from a discussion of Emmet style Gn15 to developing an Australian-flavoured layout. Various themes were tossed around, and then my friend mentioned Ned Kelly, Australian Bushranger. For those overseas w...

APA-like boxes for microlayouts

Dear all, The Ikea APA Box (useful for microlayouts) may not be available from Ikea any more, but on ebay there is something that looks very close to it. They are available from the UK. I have no connection or knowledge of the vendor. They may be worth a look search under "APA Ikea wooden"...

Re: Huge tools (sorry)

Les,
I like this. I think it will make a great layout. The two sector plates are a great idea, adding much scope for operation while minimising layout length.
I think this will give a great impression of a busy industrial complex.

Re: a plea to all GnAtters

Agreed southpier for the popsicle sticks.
IMHO though, as there aren't too many really good quality figures in 1/24, you can be a little restricted. I do think a bit of modification with squadron putty and careful painting can work wonders with these common figures.
