That is a great looking van. The brake system looks quite realistic to me. Wheels could be a bit bigger as you said. Overall wonderful design and execution.

Re: Herb Deeks Mine Train complete

Thanks Chris. They even give you little bags of ball bearings to glue in as weight. I would love to see your built up version of the loco, since your skills are legendary. The parts fit pretty well for an old resin kit. Probably from an early pouring.
Thanks

Herb Deeks Mine Train complete

I have been wanting to build a mine loco for a while but this is what I won on Sneezbay: IMG_1621.JPG IMG_1620.JPG IMG_1619.JPG It is a collector item and I hate this because I want to build it. Oh watt to do. It is resin and has track and a transformer. Too bad I use radio. No I don't want to sell ...

Not mine unfortunately. Jim Snee designed it. It is somewhere on the Internet. He has another design for the Thakham Loco in The Tome.

Both. I am using a Grandt Line diesel chassis with some styrene additions underneath. Very slow and powerful at 80:1 gearing.

Here are some that seem pretty good and fairly priced. I just don't know their actual size. They are painted, which save a good deal of time for me.

Re: Questions before I splash out on DCC for the TP&K

It also depends on motor quality and gearing but on 200 ma batteries I get 2-3 hours running. This is on 2 cells or about 8 volts. Batteries are about 6-10 USD from Hobbyking.

Roger that on the slow speed. You do need to use a good mechanism to get good running but with the radio it is really slow and smooth.

Re: Questions before I splash out on DCC for the TP&K

Batteries, like everything else in life, are rated on size and quality. Car batteries, plane batteries and train batteries are all the same, namely LiPo. You get the size and the quality that you need for the mission. Check out Hobbyking for the cheapest and largest selection of Lithium Batteries in...

Re: Questions before I splash out on DCC for the TP&K

Deltang receivers now come as small as 0.5 cm^2. They are about 45 USD each with wires installed. The Transmitter depends but can be around 120USD built and ready to use. It can control up to 12 locos.

Seems like a small price to pay for pretty complete, smooth control and no wiring.

Hello EG and welcome. Read, read and then read some more. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Find posts by Steve Bennett as he sells GN15 models and has written a large number of articles. He has been inactive lately but his work remains.

Cutting boards seem like a great place for a non skid surface. They may be that slippery stuff however, and that would resist glues of many types. Worth a test.
