Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Thanks Doc, in the end the bones are all derived from the plastic mammoth kits (2 of em'), with a couple of pieces of ribbed broken shell. I think I said that I had intended using bird bones as well, but couldn't find one! The ivory colored plastic in the mammoth kit looks the part, especially when ...

Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Hi folks, here is an update on the La Brea tarpits tramway layout. It is starting to come together well, and I hope to finish it in the next month or so. This 2015 challenge layout is a tad late, but I am pleased with how it is going. I need to make the earth "tarrier" looking, add a few l...

Re: Funny video !

Apparently this is an early Buster Keaton silent film "Our Hospitality" A wikipedia article says that the train was a replica of Stephenson's Rocket specially built for the film. There is quite a lot of railway interest in this. There are stub points in one scene. Perhaps this is inspirati...

Grum, I have sent a personal message related to this topic. I purchased and received quite a lot of Gn15 from Steve earlier this year. :D These are beautiful kits, persist is my best advice, it is well worth it. :D Smallbrook studios also have a few kits suitable for Estate railways, and some wonder...

Re: New Direction

Bill, the driver figure looks great. A kit set from ICM may be useful for your loco maintenance man. Henry Ford & Co has three 1/24 figures that (although to my eyes slightly undersized) are well worth a look. There is Henry Ford, another gent, and a mechanic. All nicely detailed. http://www.bna...

Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Thanks Les, I took my teenage daughter to the beach late yesterday, with the promise that "I am making a memory!". I told her we were looking for the tiny bones of dead seabirds. I said that she would remember wandering up and down the beach looking for dead things. Strangely (or because s...

Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Thanks for the encouragement. I am hoping to get a bit more done this weekend. Thinking of the "tar", will experiment with tile caulking (the stuff in tubes) mostly brown with black. More definition is needed in some of the sides of the excavation...photos of La Brea diggings give the impr...

Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Hello, photos of La Brea tarpits tramway as promised. Apologies for it looking so rough at present. The track now runs through the shed doors (which can be pushed open or closed) and out the back to either a fiddle yard. Much detailing of the shed is still to be done. The backscene will probably hav...

Re: Geoff Potter's Gn15 2015 challenge layout

Work has once again commenced on this little layout. It is coming together well. It will be a 2015 Challenge layout in name only, as I realize the time for the original challenge is long past. The low relief shed now has engine shed style doors. The footprint of the layout is extending beyond...

Re: Carry-on sized 1/35 scale

Lennart,

this looks like yet another great project. I loved the No Hope Coast layout from years ago.
If I can make it to the Australian Narrow Gauge Convention at Geelong next year I hope to see this layout.
thanks for posting. I am also joining the forum,

best regards
