If they used R/C they could get rid of 95% of all that electronic stuff. 8)

Re: Finally a new loco start

I mainly used Faulhaber geared Motors and looked them up on Ebay. I did get and Escap one also and they were all between $10 and $20. They have some very expensive ones which I disregarded. Pretty much any ratio you want for slow speeds.

HO or ON30 track is pretty versatile. You do have a good collection of locos. I'm impressed with the European ones. They always look cool.

Looks fine to me. Just paint it rusty and maybe paint a cushion for the drivers butt. Maybe some Blu-tac. Done.

Nah don't let it get to you. Post up and perhaps we can help. After all, the rest of us have difficulties with our models too.

Yes those locos seem to run well. Definitely not "Bad Day at Black Rock".

Re: Finally a new loco start

Finally proof of concept. Now all I need to do is attach the rear chassis, swivel the front one, add a ton of lead, stick on some details and paint the darn thing. Probably a year of work the way I do it at turtle speed. Oh yeah stick the radio in.

Preview: Looks like the 2 riva chasses will fit but they need some blacksmithing first to carve off anything that doesn't look like a Mallet.
Stay tuned.

It should arrive in today's post. I'll put it up tomorrow AM. Now I actually have to build the chassis. Uh oh!

Re: Finally a new loco start

This is the final (we hope) version ready to go in a chassis. I am waiting for the actual Shapeways loco t0 determine the chassis size. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow. This chassis has the faster motor and the radio gear attached and seems to run fine. Utube over the weekend. otherDoc IMG_1687.JPG

Re: Finally a new loco start

Here is a new test subject motor but I think even this one will be too slow at 200 rpm and the shaft. Testing will start as soon as I can get those little teeny wires soldered from the Deltang receiver. The big screw will be cut down after it is tightened on the shaft.
