:shock: I had that last photo as my screensaver at work. The other day, as I was logging off, the picture briefly turned to B&W.... must figure how to do a copy like that. Somehow, I found a button that did the trick, and here's the result.

Never been one much for the arty side of photography, but every now and then, you take a shot that says something (I don't know what, must turn up the volume on that noise in my head!).

That's nice.

I think one reason photos of models usually don't look like photos of the real thing is that the latter are often black & white and have what today we might call defects, like graininess, lack of contrast, too much contrast. So, our expectations of how things looked is wrong.

And there's nothing like natural daylight :roll: makes the photos look so much better.

We suffer from exhibition venues with soduim lighting that even the most sophisticated white balance can't get rid of :(
Simon the "not at all cross"-kitter.
I'm looking for that decrepit look. What, I just need to look in the mirror?

:? Almost, I took these at sunset..... at a 70% failure rate :!:

Too much, and the light reflected off the silver, washing out all the detail. :?

:? Talking of B&W, I was sitting down watching the History Channel with my Grandson (WW2 story, relavent to our family history), when he asked 'Grandad, was everything black and white in those days?' :roll:

Try watching colour film from WW2 , and it is really creepy. Makes you realise it wasn't that long ago.
It should also be remembered that colour TV only started in UK in late 60s, and there were still a lot of classic films made in B&W. I have read somewhere that in the same way adding sound took something of the art out of the silwnt movie, filming in colour meant other parts such as plot/story suffered.
Bob has used B&W and monochrome in his layout photos, and I seem to remember he did one monochrome layout. I have heard of another big layout being modelled in monochrome to capture the lack of colour in the 50s.

:? I told him colour pictures hdn't been invented then (well, the government propoganda folks couldn't afford colour film). Then, I showed him how to turn colour into B&W on the computer... easy. As you know, he's not dumb, he can, afterall, run up to 4-5 Gn15 layouts at the same time :!:

Just a couple of days earlier I was involved in a conversation about all the Lancaster bombers that reside in a hangar just a few minutes flying time from the hall were were in. Perhaps I'd thought I had heard a low flying Lancaster :wink:

Good Job it wasn't my late father flying it as you would have had to duck. He was in Coastal Command where he said they flew at 50 feet above the sea :shock: as well as doing the testing for the Dambusters. They tested them at Slapton Ley in Devon England.

He had a Kiwi navigator as well. :D

He and his crew did so many sorties that they 'retired' them and Dad ended up teaching new recruits to fly which he said was far more frightening than facing the Luftwaffe :roll:

:D The show was held in the Anzac Hall, which is a listed building, dating from 1916. Much of the building is still 'original' and steeped in history. Featherston was a major military camp during WWI, and a POW camp in WWII (the only place in NZ coincidently, that saw any conflict during the war). We booked 4 tables for the Gn15 mob, but they weren't ready when we got there, so, as we were going to be in front of the stage in any case, we just set up there. Took longer to find the light switch than it did to set up :!:

The H E R article in NGDU is very good. Layout looks great, and lots of helpful tips.

Actually the whole issue has something for everyone. Well worth obtaining.

Gavin, you should try and get to Melbourne for the 2013 Australian Narrow Gauge Convention... You'll find a suitable transport case for the H E R between now and then I'm sure! :lol: 8)
