Roaming wagon Square Foot Estate Railway

For discussion of the issues faced when building a model or layout - how to replicate wood, what glues to use, exactly how much weathering can a Gnat take, a good source of detailing accessories - you get the picture, I'm sure.

 Believe it or not, that photo was taken with his cell phone, one which has a very short life expectancy given the use it gets around the office :!:

You sounded worried there Gavin, at least it didn't go through the british post office, where things go missing on a regular basis

Not sure if the SFER are managing very well without #4, they recently sent 5 & 6 in for an overhaul, so they should be ok for the rest of it's tour

Dear Gavin,

Good, I was concerned that the World Tour may have gone off-the-boil, and SFER4 left wandering foreign rails, spreading tales of micro layouts...

 3 weeks.... now I'm starting to worry. WHERE'S #4 :?:

Ben's been tied up lately, joining the landed gentry, and entering brewing contests. So, I'm trying to push things along.

So let´s hope, the slowboat from over the pond does not hit an iceberg again.

The kids from the local Enrico Malatesta Elementary school already
painted a welcome sign.

SFER #4 Arrives at Pender

Postby trac555 » Fri Jun 22, 2012 9:24 pm

SFER #4 arrives at Pender Street Mills from Canada on its custom-shipping pallet.
Image

It is eagerly awaited since Pender has been operating at full capacity, and has a backlog of orders to ship.
Image

#4 is quickly switched into position for unloading by the overhead crane.
Image

Superintendant Bullock explicitly directs the workers in how the unloading is to be done.
Image

Under Bullock’s watchful eye, Steve carefully guides the wagon for lowering on the adjacent track, but ……………….!

SFER #4 at Pender - 2 of 3

Postby trac555 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 12:23 pm

Oh No -- Crisis!! One chain slips loose and the wagon plunges down hard on one axle. A close technical inspection by Michael confirms that the axle bearing support strut is broken.
Image

But not to worry. Pender’s business is metal fabrication. So a repair plan is set in action immediately. Hugo is called forth from the forge room to hammer out a new strut.
Image

Welders are plentiful at Pender, and are called out to weld the new bearing support strut back on to SFER #4.
Image

Ben wraps up the welding task while his partner, Gavin, provides unsolicited advice.
Image

To be continued . . . . .

PS: chris69 -- as Prof Klyzir states the track plan is in the Sept. 2009 issue of Model Railroader. Since the whole layout is only 2' x 4' there is not much to see that is not in the pictures. Inside the right building is a two track traverser going to a two track fiddle yard in the back, and inside the left building is a sector plate.
