Kerluk's layout

Postby Kerluk » Sun Jun 11, 2017 2:02 pm

This is my very first Gnine project.
I'm certainly not the only one making roundy round layouts here, but I couldn't resist trying my hand at such a layout.
It will be built with Kato 183mm curves laying on a 18" chipboard baseboard (found in my personal organized chaos). I also ordered in Japan one Kato 11-103 motorized chassis for building a critter. The engineer is ready to drive it. It's just the beginning.
As it is my very first Gnine layout, a few rules:
1) Rule #1 applies (it's my layout and I do what I want ! )
2) I just want to have fun,
3) I like roundy roundy layouts as I like watching trains go past,
4) I absolutely don't like ballasting. That's the reason why I choosed Kato track,
5) I'm not going for realism and I'm not a rivet counter.
See you soon ! :D

A few updates:
I ordered two Dapol 2A-000-019 for building two wagons later.
A short video: The first run ! A Kato 11-103 runs perfectly on this Gnine layout.

Thank you. I plan to build my critter (diesel or electric? I don't know yet) with empty cereal boxes. No guarantee of results...
And now, a little bit of scenery: I'm trying to build three different houses and put them in the middle of my layout. I have two ideas. What's the best solution ?

I think the lower photo is more realistic without the central gap.

Dieselwater did plenty of loco and other modelling with little more than old cereal packets and paint. Here's one of his threads to get you started:

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=7315

Most of his work is 1/12 scale so have a look around in Size doesn't matter for more threads started by him.

Cheers,

This is my new critter. I bought it from ACME. I guess it's a nuclear engine Inside. I'm not really sure because I don't have the owner manual. It also needs some painting work.

Your new critter runs well, congratulations.

I like the second of your two layout arrangements. If it was me, I'd extend a building or wall right to the edge of the layout, to give more variety. There's a layout I like called Potter and Klayman, see here 3/4 of the way down, http://www.carendt.com/scrapbook/page79/index.html, that has interesting areas round the track.

Please stay cool. Everything's under control (in fact I hope it's true). This critter is powered by nuclear energy.

These N scale wagons are a little bit too small for Gnine. I know that !
