HOn2 a mini...

Postby chris69 » Sat Sep 14, 2019 9:20 pm

Hi guys,
well I am back in Germany and while packing things in the US I found this little train that was packed up for almost 20 years.
The loco was build using a Bachman N Scale Switcher with a scratch Cab. The dump cars are old ROCO ones.
Since I am very limited in space (69 X 39 CM ) I am looking for an oval track set that would fit the space. Looking around,
TOMIX and KATO seem to have something that would fit. If anyone has more info or experience with them, I would love to hear about it.
thanks for your help
Chris

Alas Chris, we are so much quieter nowadays.

For example, only twenty or so members have signed in since you first posted, so if they’re not clued up on what you ask...

Cheers,

No sweat Chris, was more of a satirical post on my end......
Am just in a rut at the time. The Stuff available on line does not give any sizes and the stores here do not carry it.
So thanks anyway.

Is HOn2 standard 9mm track? If so both Kato and Tommytec make pre-built oval and circles in around the 6" radius. I hope this helps.

Thanks David ! Really appreciate it! Helps a lot. All I could find was the Japanese print on the packages that are shown on line.
Have a great day

If the online photo show the packaging it may give the radius. There are apps available for smart phones which allow you to read the Japanese characters.

Hi everyone...
well, it is going ahead with the layout....slowly..but....
In the meantime I bought some ARNOLD N scale track. It forms an oval of 84X40 CM radius is about 19,5 CM.
A great way to test the loco I have with the little mine cars.
In the meantime I also found an old N Scale TRIX Rack Locomotive chassis one I wanted to convert years ago. Some research got me A Shapeways HOe Body that matched perfectly.
With the track I also bought a power pack and some cars, a 4 axle ROCO freight car and an old BEMO 2 axle passenger one. A great start to test the drive and get them to run properly.
In the meantime I also ordered a TOMITEC set No: 910817.
So we are off to a relatively good start.
A shelf unit that will be in the living room affords enough room for a 45 X 105 CM layout....so once the set is here I can start playing with the track plan.....
Wish me luck
Chris

Hi there...
well, it continues. The FALLER Gravel Crusher/Loader arrived and some more track is on the way.
I have some idea of what I want it to be but until the track arrives I am a bit stuck. The Gravel works will be one center , the other the quarry.....
So the imagination is working overtime....
Cheers

Hi there,
got some great stuff in the mail today.....
Fond thees cars on E bay for EU 50.....5 of them...great price since they look like repainted BACHMAN 009 Narrow gauge ones.....
I probably can live with the green color...mat be....
But 2 cars had on one end the original couplers replaced N gauge type ones.....they have to go...
So does anyone have a source for replacement couplers of this type? I looked on the BACHMAN page and could not find any.
And an other question to the community. does anyone have experience with removing paint from these type of cars with BRAKE FLUID? I know it can work really well but can also attack the plastic....on some.
Love to hear your input.
Cheers
Chris
Here are some pictures:
I think they look just right behind the Diesel.....

Hi Chris - try soaking them in undiluted Dettol disinfectant over night. The paint should become soft and can be scraped and wiped off. Dettol contains isopropol alcohol and another chemical which seems to dissolve even acrylic paint.

Dettol is also good hand sanitizer ...

Hi there!
Well, I finally got my internet back.....Miracles do happen !
And the other miracle...I got my track from Japan ! So I started playing with the track plan.
The base will be 60 X 102 CM . I could have drawn a track plan but have had bad experiences when it came to the execution....
This way bad wake up calls are avoided. On the plan you can see the crusher building on the right and on the left there are the 2 mining areas.
The track that is partially visible under the crusher , the half section....will be on the lowest level. I want to make this the supply and product hauler coming out of a tunnel on the backside, going under the mine track to the front and then back in the tunnel on the left. I will make some more pictures when I figured out how it will all fit together.
I also got busy building some locos. i found 2 great one on shapeways.
Since I have not figured out how to insert the pictures they will be on the end.The yellow one is the one for the mine track, the green one will be finished as an electric and run on the lower track.
And since one needs Excavators, here they are !
The grey one is a Wicking Model, originally a 1:60 scale one. Since I wanted a HUSKY looking one, I converted it by modifying the cab.
The green UB 80 looks a bit different as well by now....nicely used !
Have fun...
Also anyone have a tip how one can INSERT the pictures.....

Cheers
Chris
