Good news about your friend Tom. I hope he tolerates the treatment well. Prayers sent...

I'm still having to use the IP numbered site most of the time. Seems like my ISP forgets the DNS translation or something. BTW... they are in southern Idaho, and I would guess that the main route to Chris could go through the same area. Hopefully this will work out one day. I still manage to get in... obviously.

The numeric heywood address won't remember your login, that is one of the problems about using it.

If it's changing to the Gn15.info address that;'s why it stops working as that one is not resolving for you - I thought it should stay with what you started from though, will try it here.

Think we are going to have to get down to finding out why you and Ken seem to have this problem.

Tom, are you able to see statistics for 'real members' (not bots) who log in? I wonder how many members are actually making it in, even if they don't post. Maybe a 'head count' thread would be good. A simple thread asking for members to check in so we can see who is actually able to get in and know who hasn't been able to or hasn't tried to get in.
I usually see only a couple of bots and one or two members at the bottom of the main page.

According to my statistics we are getting about 250 unique visitors per day - this should not include bots, but probably does not catch quite all of them.

44% from UK, 20% from US - so 50 people a day from the US manage to get in.

That sounds like it should I guess.

Just for reference, I'm in on the gn15 URL, not the ip numbered one now.

So now I'm completely confused. The Gn15 address is working (apparently) perfectly now. Just got on and I seem to be able to access everything. That hasn't happened since before the changeover. Fingers crossed some behind the scenes digital fairy worked some magic?

I was on my PC earlier and now on my iPad and the Gn15 site is working still.

It has been on and off for me since the changeover. Hopefully it sticks this time. :D

That message

"Apache/2.2.9 (Debian) PHP/5.2.6-1+lenny16 with Suhosin-Patch Server at gn15.info Port 81"

Is not coming from the server that is running Gn15.info as it is version 2.6.32-042stab094.8 here and it should be using port 80 not 81

Which means that there is another server intercepting your communications somewhere between your computer and the server here.

It could be your ISP is putting a proxyserver up to handle routing or load management or it could be malware re-routing your requests to an intermediary either to monitor your traffic or insert it own content.

Will have a think about what to do next.

Ken

It might be worth ringing your ISP to see if that message comes from some sort of proxy server, router or firewall they are running. If they say it is, it at least eliminates Malware as a worrying proposition. Tell them you've contacted me and I say it's not coming from our server

Problem is the might deny it, even if it is them because :-

1: The person that answers the phone is not technical enough.

2: They are doing it, but it's badly set up and they are trying to avoid blame.

3: They are doing it because they are doing some sort of borderline illegal traffic shaping or something and don't want to admit it.

4: It's a 3rd party doing it not them - got anyone in your area the NSA would be interested in?

I'll try calling. The ISP is the phone company in a very remote place on the border with Idaho. I think the line ties in at Boise, ID.

Who knows who is looking for whom? :D

Oh, I'm on the Gn15 site again. :?:

Just picked up on this. Got all the above problems here in NZ. Rather annoying. Got a friend trying to access Gn15 from Canada, and he is having problems too.... can't even reset his password.

Not at the moment.... because, all of a sudden, I again have unimpeded access to Gn15 again.

Well, things seem to be getting worse. While the Gn15 address has worked a couple of times recently, it's only been for very short periods of time. Now the Heywood address is starting to have problems. I can get on the site and to a topic, but that's where it ends. The internal links aren't working.
Getting really, really frustrating.

OK something else you can try

Go to
hide.me/en/proxy

Enter gn15.info/forum as the address you want to visit and see if you can get in that way.

Yes, that works and it seems like I can access the entire site. Kind of the long way around, but it does seem to work. At least at the moment. Thanks for all your effort in trying to get this sorted out, you must be as frustrated as the rest of us!

I'm frustrated because it's very hard to diagnose from this end what the problem is and why there just a few people scattered round the globe who are having these problems.

It's almost certainly something with DNS resolution failing at your local ISP - you ISP will almost certainly have their own DNS server. It could however, also be any DNS server upstream if their server -it's very difficult to work out why this is happening and why only with Gn15.info.

Another alternative might be to change your networking settings to use a different DNS server such as Google's, but that's a messy technical thing to set up if you don't know what your are doing and could easily break other things.

Thanks Tom, I'm sure it is frustrating. Here too, I can't get in on the gn15 again. I'll try the proxy.

I do know that this is the ONLY time I have ever had this problem. I've been using the internet since '96 or '97 and have never seen anything like this before. :?

I'm with Ken. I've been on the internet since day 1, well, maybe day ten. And I have never come across this before and am not having any similar issues on any of the many websites I hit every day. Is it possible to send out a general email to find out just how many people aren't getting onto the site or are having problems with it? And where they are located? Would that give anymore insight into the problem, or is my ignorance showing again?
