Rudolf's Chicorée-Bahn

Postby Gerry Bullock » Tue Dec 13, 2011 5:40 pm

Now this should really have appeared awhile back, missed it because it's not described in Modelling Matters, however it is linked to a German Forum.
A trackplan rather than a photo to introduce this gem:

Section 11 in RED is the Chicorée-Bahn.

I'm taking Rudolf's description from the German website to set the scene for this outstanding layout:

"A vegetable gardner discovered the ideal conditions for the Chicoréeanbau here in the twenties of the last century resulting in Chicory from the Odenwald being in great demand in gourmet circles. Fortunately Chicory is not particularly heavy… The Höhlensystem coveres several areas and has two entrances. The entrance toward the cultivated fields is on the other side of the mountain and is not modelled.
The layout depicts the equipment of the Chicoréebahn from the cave to the loading area.
The following photos show the extensive working area, on which there is no rolling stock. It is still quite early, just after sunrise.
Starting with the entrance to the cave, which is always closed to prevent warmth and light inhibiting the Chicory growth."
