Lulworth range railway (Dorset UK)

Want to talk about Sir Arthur Heywood's 15" gauge railways? About modern day minimum gauge lines? Have you found a minimum gauge line you've not seen mentioned on the website? Want directions to one of the railways that is mentioned? Whatever your interest in real minimum gauge lines, post your questions (and answer other modellers' questions) here.

Lulworth range railway (Dorset UK)

Postby John New » Sun Jun 15, 2014 8:27 pm

Drove past the other day and sign boards outside the entrance seemed to suggest some new/repair work was under way. I know it is a military firing range so not open to the public but with a contractors sign up the work is unlikely to be secret activity. Anyone know what is being done?

Ps. It was the one at Whiteway near East Lulworth. Entrance off the B3070 and shown on the OS 1:50k mapping.

The line is also fully visible on Google Earth in the 2009 imagery. Looks like a four rail system with two power rails. (It is definitely electric powered as there are live rail signs up at the gate)

Have been back once since the above post hoping to get a view down but the specific road I wanted across the range and over Whiteway Hill to Tyneham was shut that week for live firing. Definitely a Tynenham open weekend this weekend so hoping to try again for a photo looking down onto the range on Saturday whilst I'm visiting Tyneham for something else.
