problem with one of my email accounts

A general talking shop for any subject under the sun (even Monty Python). This would also be a good place to make suggestions about the site itself or about these forums (or "fora", if you're particularly pedantic).

problem with one of my email accounts

Postby rue_d_etropal » Sun Sep 18, 2016 9:21 am

I have happily used hotmail for years and had few problems. As one account gets busy(not just junk, but too many links etc), I have created new accounts. I have had 3 accounts for a while, check two of them daily and the other one weekly.
Since end of June I have noticed some messages from Shapeways have not got through. This roughly coincided with new computer arriving and Windows 10. Possibly a coincidence, but everything I tried with settings did not fix problem, so I set up another email account, just for Shapeways emails and messages and it seems to work fine.
I think there might still be another problem with messages not getting through on old account, which I still will use. If anyone has sent emails to me and not got a reply(if required), then this might be the reason, and suggest sending a message via forum.
This has not been a simple case of messages being treated as spam, as they have not gone in spam folder. I think it might be related to switching to Windows 10, as it did grab this email account for logon and I have had a couple of small problems. One reason I try to keep things separate and not linked as some seem to want us to to go.

hmmm...
I've had a hotmail account for nearly 20 years I think. I have more and more problems with it. Mail that is cleared on my contacts list might not get into my mailbox. LOTS of crap comes through instead of being deleted like it should be. I think this is just a symptom of crappy software driven by advertising dollars.

I'm looking for something else. I have several google email addresses, but the hassle of transferring everything to one of those had made me hesitate.

hotmail has fewer problems than some other products, especially gmail, and even though I had to set up an account I never use it.I refuse to even use my wife's account, as logging in can upset other bits of my system . Problems at moment are I think linked to how they are trying to merge hotmail and outlook. The account with a problem had had to be set up as a dot co dot uk, wheras my others were dot com, and now the choice is either hotmail dot com or outlook dot com.
When they first tried to switch to outlook, I did a search and found out another company owned outlook dot co dot uk, which possibly caused plans to be changed a bit. Setting up new account, had a couple of bugs still, but on second attempt worked OK,and now I have to check another account daily. I intend to keep it purely for my messages from Shapeways so will not be used for anything else.
