UP 4014 4-8-8-4 Back on the rails?

A general talking shop for any subject under the sun (even Monty Python). This would also be a good place to make suggestions about the site itself or about these forums (or "fora", if you're particularly pedantic).

UP 4014 4-8-8-4 Back on the rails?

Postby More_Cats_Than_Sense » Sun Mar 23, 2014 5:43 pm

I was browsing RailPictures, and stumbled across something which could be considered historic.

Quoting from the description of one of the photographs:

"UP 4014, a 4-8-8-4 Big Boy articulated locomotive, resting on temporary panel track at the LA County Fairplex in Pomona, CA. UP 4014 is seen beginning it's 1200 mile trek back to Cheyenne, WY for a complete and operational restoration by the Union Pacific Railroad."

And the photograph that accompanies that quote

I hadn't realised a 'Big Boy' was going to be restored, can't wait to see it in steam :-)

Never knowingly sensible!
