As I've finally got around to updating the forum to the latest, secure version of PHPBB I thought I'd take the opportunity to install the RSS feed mod too.

For those of you who use RSS aggregators, you can now add a Forum feed should you so wish - the feed URL is http://forum.gn15.info/rss.php. Viewing the RSS feed lets you see the latest posts made to the Gnatterbox rather than having to keep an eye on those bell icons.

If anyone's interested, the RSS reader I use is the web-based Bloglines service (http://www.bloglines.com) - no software installation required and viewable from anywhere with a web connection - but there are many other fine products out there.

For the IT thickies out here (I count myself as one) what is PHPBB and RSS?

Well, PHPBB is the software that powers the GnATTERbox fora, Gerry.

RSS is a syndicating protocol so that busy folk can view feeds from various websites in one place, either from a desktop aggregator or from an aggregating website such as My Netscape and Bloglines.

Ok, it seems that the RSS feed may have been borked at some point.

But it's now fixed, in case anyone actually uses it.

I'm using it, in Outlook 2007, and it appears to be working fine. For those still missing the point, this means that posts to The Gnatterbox appear like emails for me and I don't need to keep visiting the web site to keep up to date.
