working wagon turntables

Postby rue_d_etropal » Wed Nov 19, 2014 5:55 pm

Now have built up first 2 samples of my 3D printed working turntable
Image
Both are 16.5mm gauge, one on left is 48mm diameter , other one is 84mm diameter. Different stone surfaces are available, match my inset track system.
Operating is done by moving lever from side to side. Turntable only ever needs to move 90deg so one track can be connected up live to allow locos to cross it.
Just waiting for some slightly modified versions, including a 9mm gauge version o0f the 48mm diameter and a 24mm diameter.

Yes, neat stuff. 3D printing is good for something after all. :D

as soon as I have latest sample , they will be available to buy.
One reason I am now concentrating on the track items is that the rough nature of the basic plastic actually enhances the final appearance.

I have just made all my wagon turntables available, and designed some new versions.
I was asked last week for a 9mm gauge 36mm diameter one, initially thought no, but then realised I would need a 36mm diameter one for 12mm gauge, so may as well design one for 9mm gauge first. It is right size for Peco N gauge 15ft wagon chassis which is used for some O9 kits.

I have just created a 60mm version of the 16.5mm gauge turntable. Apparently there were some 15ft wagon turntables, so as I had to design one for OO, I also included versions for bigger scales. The increased size turntable still fits inside the boundary of the working base unit, so it only require minor modification. Not sure if this is any more useful for Gn15, as most wagons are very short, but any built on OO 10ft chassis would be easier to shunt on/off the turntable.
