Laser Cut Wagons

Postby AndyG » Wed Sep 02, 2015 11:27 pm

Allen of Minimum Gauge Models has asked me to post some pics of the 1:24 scale stock that he produced as a 'rush job' for Moming at Pewsey this year. The wagons are laser cut wood with etched details. Chassis are laser cut acrylic. The pictures are taken on my 'work in progress' layout (still unnamed at this time).

The 2 sizes of flat wagon are available from MG Models, with various tops being considered if there is enough interest.

Short flat £3.50
Long Flat £4.50
Wheels not included. I used some Hornby ones I had available.

Couplings (5pr) £1
Pins/chain not included. I used Peco track pins and some chain from stock.

Hi Andy,

I thought I'd pop your post into Trade tittle-tattle as it would be a better fit here.

cheers,

Does somebody know the dimensions of these little flatwagons?

The axle boxes look very simple. Maybe they can get replaced by
white metal castings or 3 D prints.

It is a very good idea, to offer affordable rolling stock to the Gn15 fraternity.
I always liked the brass loco kits but never got around, ordering one. .

They are probably awaiting addition to the website. However, an email to allen@mgmodels.co.uk should work (when he's back from holiday!)

Dimensions are:
Short flat is 41mm wide x 61mm long
Long flat is 43mm wide x 83mm long
Couplings are 14mm wide x 5mm long

Well, I did not resist. I simply ordered some samples. A Steve Bennett DECADE is happily hauling them.

Image

Fitted some Ozark Bolt castings, Hornby 14mm wheels, Teebe Shapeways axleboxes (thinned) and some couplers from the scrapbox.

Image

Inside the MDF Laser parts, is a nylon frame (supplied) so the wheels run free and easy. Very easy to assemble kits.

Played around with my samples recently.
