I spoke to Steve in late February, he's back up and running, but rather busy.

Kerluk: Steve has had some personal issues over the last few years, and his website has been erratic. There is this tread and others about it on gnatterbox.

I don't know if it is operational, but there is this version of website with the Pepper 7 kit on:

http://blackdogmining.weebly.com

I get a shoe shop on the Pepper7.co.uk site - Agh!

Has anyone tried to order something recently on this site ? Does it work well ? Did you get your order quickly ? Thanks.

Hi Kerluk,

Steve (the man behind Pepper 7 / Blackdog mining) has a had a lot of bother in his life over the last couple of years, and the best way to order from him at present seems to be to call him on the telephone. I don't think the website is monitored too much.

Hi All,
I have ordered some items from Pepper7, Steve Bennett, in April and although the money has been paid and cashed, no items have been received to date, 07/06/2017. I have emailed Steve and tried to call but to no avail. I have traded with him in the past and have been really satisfied. Can anyone suggest how I can progress this? :|

Unfortunately your experience seems typical for recent years. It seems like you didn't use PayPal; they will refund.

Sorry about that.

Hi all,

I met Steve at the 7mm narrow gauge show at Burton on Trent today.

A few points:

- he's been without a computer for several months, should have one again shortly, but will obviously take time to catch up

- he was under the impression that although pepper7.co.uk might not be working pepper7.com was and it said 'please do not order' at present. But, having just checked that's dead too and the only website that I know of is this:

http://blackdogmining.weebly.com

Which has a front page that makes it appear as if he is open for orders when that is not the case at present, at least not electronically, as he can't see any orders placed that way.

As referred to previously, he has spent a BIG bunch of time as a carer in the last year.

Might I ask on his behalf that those owed stuff to be patient a little longer?

I hope the above helps shed some light on the situation.

Cheers,

Cheers, Stockers

Good to have an update from Steve. Hopefully he will be back to normal soon - I've been a carer many years ago and it isn't an easy thing to do.

Hi All,
DO NOT ORDER FROM PEPPER7 - its a complete farce. I ordered in April, paid in full, £40.50p., I have emailed, tried to call, he is not answering, written a letter and even posted on this site. I understand he may have problems but if he is trading, taking my money, I do expect some kind of service.
If Steve is unable to fulfil orders he should close the option to order. I feel totally ripped off!

Hi fellow Gnatterboxers,

I have been able to talk to Steve, who regrettably still does not have a computer, and we agreed I suggest that anyone who would like to place an order with him do it manually by using the good old postal service.

Even if any of his websites might allow you to order, please don't!

Instead write to him at:

Steve Bennett
95 King Arthurs Road
Exeter
EX4 9DS

Anything placed or communicated electronically in recent months will have effectively fallen into a 'black hole' as Steve has no way of seeing/managing it.

I hope this helps.

Perhaps some kind soul with a computer could disable his online store to minimise the problems some gnatterboxers have been experiencing? Also, my local library has free use computers and the internet, so there are alternatives.

I've copied this rather encouraging post from the Greenwich website, with Richard Glover's permission:

At the last Small and Delightful earlier in the year I purchased an O-9 diesel loco kit from Black Dog. It seemed an easy way of trying a different scale, as track, mechanisms and other parts were common with 009, my usual scale. Also, any resulting layout should be small and easy to store.

The kit I purchased was for a ‘Mite’, a freelance diesel loco, which was available in two versions: to fit the Bachmann brick, or the Kato 11-103. I chose the version for the Bachmann chassis.

The kit is in cast resin and all the parts were clean and nicely made. However, when I came to assemble it I found that a couple of parts had been mixed up and the main frame and side frames were designed for the alternative Kato mechanism.

The kit instructions have contact details for Steve Bennett (owner of Black Dog) and I sent an email asking for the correct parts. We are used to rapid response to emails, but the days went by and there was no reply. Then I started reading the ‘Pepper 7’ thread on NGRM-online: Pepper 7 is another name used to sell Steve’s products.

It appeared that the Pepper 7 website has continued to function, taking orders and accepting payment, but no models have been received. According to one post Steve Bennett no longer has a computer, so has no contact with his website. This is little comfort to those who have paid, but neither received their purchases or a refund. Attempts to contact Black Dog by email have failed. However, Black Dog does still trade at exhibitions, they were at ExpoNG.

Modifying my kit was one possibility, I would have had to enlarge the hole in the frame and make new side frames, but I decided to make one more attempt at contact by letter. This was sent off and again there was no response. But one month after I had posted the letter, a package arrived with the replacement parts.

So now I have all the correct parts and assembly can begin.

The above sadly ignores my discussion with Steve at a show and the statement I made about that in this thread and on other related forums.

Please guys, read what I’ve written and follow the advice.

Thanks.

I don’t think you read the post carefully enough Stockers. Richard got his satisfactory outcome after WRITING to Steve, which I think is what you suggested.
