(M) Space Board - pink polystyrene

Postby rue_d_etropal » Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:56 am

Whilst at Rainhill, I talked to people about the advantages of using pink(or green?) insulation board for layouts.
I had managed to buy it from one of the large B&Q Warehouse stores, but smaller branches don't sell it, and I have not seen it elsewhere. Knowing what to ask for is important, so I checked out the label on the stuff I bought and details can be found here for one manufacturer.

Odd it also does not come up on B&Q website or eBay. ould be interested in other suppliers, just so I can help others.

Hi Simon, (and everybody else)

According to the space-insulation website, B&Q don't stock the space board, only their other (related) products. But they say Wickes list it.

I found it on the Wickes website http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/161280 but they say they're out of stock.

If only life was 'easy' :?
My Mum calls me Steve.
1:32 on 16·5mm track. Gnot strictly minimum gauge... but it is the minimum that I'm working with !
And now... a critter in 1/24th... from scratch!

Travis perkins sell Xtratherm, another form of this close celled insulation board. Another maker is Kingspan. Although both of these products have a foil face it can be peeled off. If you only require a small amount, check out any building site as it's commonly used in the cavity walls. I've seen half a dozen sheets go into the skip rather than be returned, so little bits and bobs shouldn't be hard to find.
Check out the website,

I've used Sheffield Insulations before. I bought a blue sheet which was IIRC 8' by 4' but I took a knife with me and cut it down to a manageable size there and then. It also meant that I had enough in stock for 3 years. The counter salesman is "quite used to you arty types"
Another countrywide supplier (part of the same group as Sheffield Insulation) is Warren Insulation
There are many more specialists available as insulation is a growing business.

I pretty much buy all my stuff here. Foamboard, plastruct, brass, 1:25 washing machines...

We're gonna need a little rolling stock...and a lot of luck!

I used to have a project link here until the thread was deleted... :(
