It's time to pay our hosting bill again

A general talking shop for any subject under the sun (even Monty Python). This would also be a good place to make suggestions about the site itself or about these forums (or "fora", if you're particularly pedantic).

It's time to pay our hosting bill again

Postby tebee » Tue Jan 15, 2019 8:30 pm

It the time of year again where we need pay for the bill to host the forum.

It's $215.46 and due in about a week - but don't panic, I'll pay for the moment.

As usual send paypal donations to donations@gn15.info

It's good to see we have a few new people interested in the forum - I prefer this format to Facebook, but I thought that was maybe just me getting old...

I'll hopefully have time soon to stating investigating what anti-bot registration techniques work these days and we can re-enable easy registration.

A happy and Gn15 fruitful new year to you all.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Happy New Year.

Money sent! :D

I too prefer the ease of accessing threads in this forum format to Facebook where it can be done but is much trickier. Alas the world is leaning FB way - and me with it for my Minimal group, see the link in my signature.

The advantage with FB is that it's both 'free' and the software is looked after by someone other than me.

But please don't let this enclave go unless we really have to. Lots of great memories even if currently not so busy.

Cheers,

I’m arranging a payment.

Facebook may be simple and convenient, but after the recent privacy and user data scandals I would never use it.

I have just sent an email to the address you have given but it bounces back.
I think we need more details to make a paypal donation.

Facebook is great for a quick look at what people are doing but there is no way of looking back at what has been said over the years.

Geoff,

To use Paypal you use the ‘email’ given as the recipient for the payment once you’ve signed in there.

Donations are, of course, any amount you you feel comfortable with. I’m extremely fond of the Gnatterbox so I pop in £20. I’d not expect you do to the same, but it’s your call. I’m sure Tom would be happy with anything to help us keep going.

Cheers,

Yes any contribution is welcome - however much you can afford.

Currency is unimportant too, It's no problem if you send in Pounds, $ or Euros.

Thanks to everyone who's contributed so far, we are about 40% of the way there already

A contribution from a long time lurker has been sent. FB exists but this has always been a much less frustrating platform

OK I paid the bill last week, so we are here for another year.

So far donations have totaled $187 of the $215 we need to raise so we are nearly there.

Thanks to all that have contributed so far

Hello,
I tried several times to use the link "donations@gn15.info" without any result. How can I make a little donation ? Thanks.

Chris

Chris,

Even if you’re not a Paypal user you can go on their website and make the payment using the ‘donations...’ address as the person to pay.

Stockers: I don’t have a PayPal account. I went to their website but there wasn’t an obvious way of making a donation.

Peter, Chris,

Yes, I took a look at the Paypal site and couldn’t see how it could be used without an account.

I think we might be able to turn it on it’s head. If you were each to send a message to Tom (Tebee) saying how much you would like to contribute he can send you a Paypal invoice that you can pay without needing to set up an account.

Cheers,
