This is G Scale from Marcel Ackle BUT not Gn15. If you've never seen it before you have an example of superb modelling awaiting you. _________________ So little time, so many ideas!!!!! GerryB.

It doesnt come any better than Marcel's scenic modelling, he is in a class of his own. Inspirational to study closely and full of great ideas, but always a reminder of how much there is still to learn . _________________ Steve Bennett

As the good Prof says 'Aim to improve'
Lessons learnt from Box End are being applied to Quemerford (my 1/34th layout that I'm building.. 2 foot and 18inch gauges).
I'm fairly sure the next layout I have plans for will be better than Quemerford..
But we now have higher standards to aim for! |

Ever since I got interested in Gn15 and followed some of the posted links I have been in awe of Marcel's work.
Please take the time to go back through the pages on this link and just wonder at the skill of this man. The damp, greenish bricks at the bottom of the wall and take a look at the breakdown of the door accessories - hinges, bolts and the padlock!
just a pity that the 3 foot match stick is not as well modelled _________________ Gordon F |

Thanks for the link Christoph, not seen that thread before.
Padlocks are fairly easy Gordon, holding the small parts is the difficult bit. Nearly all my layouts have padlocks somewhere on them, even the O scale ones I pefer styrene for the body with a brass U as a force fit in 2 small holes, they only take a couple of minutes to make and add a great small detail to a door or gate. I would show how, but photographing the process, would be a lot more difficult than making them . _________________ Steve Bennett

Yup, made them that way myself - but would you bet against Marcel's padlock actually working _________________ Gordon F |

Those photos are so life-like you would struggle to tell some of them are models if you saw them away from the forum.
I can imagine if he exhibits, no one would want to have the stand next to him. Everything else would look very second-rate next to his work. _________________ Glen Anthony.

Hi,
Marcelīs work gets lost in exibitions. The details look amazing enlarged
on computer screens or in magazines, but from a few feet away, it looks like an expressionistic backdrop painting:

Thanks for the pic of the layout Juergen, nice to see it in a show setting. Yes, a lot of the detail will be lost when viewed from a distance, but it is still there and wonderful to study up close. _________________ Steve Bennett

That shed is superb Christoph.
On the subject of padlocks I've not yet tried them BUT I can offer an opening gate with working bolt mechanism which appears on Secciole Salina.
Not my work though but that of "Lamb Chop" alias Andrew Griffiths.
The handle is rather oversize BUT you try opening it with 1:1 fingers. _________________ So little time, so many ideas!!!!! GerryB.

Looks incredible that close up Gerry, a fine bit of modelling, especially as it works .
Cant really get in quite so close with this, but it is O scale. Hopefully it will show how simple shapes make up to create the illusion. Everything is styrene, either strip, or sheet in the case of the corrugated. Just the U on the top of the padlock is not from styrene, but brass, oh and the paint of course .

Hi,
I think, Ozark Miniatures from the US offer a padlock. As well as Phoenix Minatures from GB. got one at one of my Turkish cars (32mm auge)
Regarding the presentation of layouts or models at exibitions, we probably all are looking for perfect solutions. Bringing your own light helps and to raise it close to eye level of the onlookers helps also.
I always loved to see the work of Otto Schouwstra
http://www.schobarn.demon.nl/ or Franz S. http://www.miniatur-rekorde.de/
Have Fun
