I'm working on a large van for my 1:55 scale model, and I'd like to put a slogan on the side. In english it's:

"Hello trucks, the competition is overtaking you!"

Would that be more accurately rendered as:

"Hallo LKW, sie werden von Konkurrenz überholt!"

Or:

"Hallo LKW, das Konkurrenz überholt sie!"

I know neither are gramatically accurate, feel free to correct them...

Hi Andy,
Out here in oz, all Fox Transport trucks (one of the major trucking lines) have a sticker on the back
"You are passing another Fox"
How about turning it around? To give something like:
"You are being overtaken by a train"
or
"You have been passed by another train"

Perhaps that might translate easier?

Thanks Harald. It's also nice to see my German is now at a level where only minor corrections are needed- until recently I'd make such a mess of the grammar that the rewritten version would be totally different...

It'll take a big van for that lot, fortunately I'm working on one at the moment...

It´s not a big deal to overtake a big lorry with a small van. They are only allowed 80km / h anyway. Aren´t they?

Write the slogan on a train or your bycicle and you have a political message which might make sense.

Have Fun

Hi Juergen- the model is of a railway van. one of these as used by the Rhaetian Bahn, or near enough to it for me any way, so it will be a political message.

Mind you, putting it on my bike would be fun too...
