A bit of free advertising for Steve...... the 'building' of Haywards #2, a Bachmann/Sidelines Davenport.

Let's start with this



The Bachmann straight out of the box, and one of Steve's kits. This what you get for your nine quid



It all cleans up with a craft knife. Of course the photo is sideways... this is a Sidelines kit, isn't it. (Loaded it wrong into the host).

Then you put it together, as per instructions.



I did mine without the optional headstocks, and retained the Kadee set up.
Finally, weather according to taste.



You can see on #1, the optional headstocks. This now runs on Pizza 'n Beer (the layout, not your supper )

Thanks for the advert Gavin, I missed this somehow when you first posted it.
I see now why you expanded the fleet, so you can run with Kadee/Bachmann couplers on Haywards and the link and pin on the Pizza and Beer layout.

Just trying to be different Next yellow one, now on the workbench, will have right handed cab. With the left handed one, I had to dremel off a box on the cab floor to make it fit

Precisely, the black one was built under a Labour Government, and the yellow one, under National.

DCRfan dropped by at lunchtime with a home made static grass applicator that is doing the rounds of some of the local layouts..... short story, it took him longer to explain how to work it (and what parts not to touch when 'live') than it took for me to apply the grass to the layout.

An unshocking 15 mins later, and this is the result.



Paul supplied two colours, and two different lengths of grass, and they were randomly mixed and applied. I think it was worth the effort.

I have to wait 24 hours for the matte medium to dry, then vacuum the excess off..... and perhaps apply a few touch ups. Till now, static grass, to me always seemed too uniform, but I think our mob have cracked the secret, as noted above.

You can even do little bits by hand, as shown by this grass between the rails near the level crossing.

Well, happy with the grass. But now, the shrubs didn't look right.
A spot of hair spray, and a smattering of scatter material to 'green' things up a bit, and this is the result.

Team Davenport, 3 Sidelines, and a Napier, line up on Haywards at the Masterton Show.



Haywards No.3 (that's the one with the unpainted cab), and the Napier, were both 'built' at the show, some two years apart.

Haywards No.3, with a fresh coat of paint, is now ready for service.



I intend to keep No.3 unweathered, in as built appearance.

That static grass is starting to grow on me (not literally). One of the traders at Masterton had a new variety (brand) on sale for half the price of stuff previously available. Found out that Mark's applicator runs at 18,000V, hot stuff!
